Why Monday Always Wins and We Always Lose

Monday is that opponent in the game who never loses. No matter how good your weekend was, how much you slept, or how motivated you felt on Sunday evening — at 7 a.m. he has already won.

He arrives without warning, without mercy, and at full strength. The alarm rings, the coffee isn’t ready yet, and the to-do list is already staring at you like a judge. Monday doesn’t ask if you’re ready. He simply begins.

We, on the other side, are always on the defensive. On Sunday night we swear that this time we’ll wake up earlier, exercise, eat healthy, and be productive. Then Monday morning we wake up with the face of someone who just lost a match.

Monday wins because he is organized. He has a plan. We only have good intentions and an extra half hour of sleep. He knows exactly when to strike — right when we are most vulnerable. We try to fight him with coffee, music, and motivational quotes, but he just smiles and keeps going.

The funny part is that every Friday evening we think we’ve beaten him. “This weekend I’ll prepare better,” we tell ourselves. Then Sunday night we surrender again. Monday waits patiently. He knows he will return and win once more.

Maybe the secret isn’t to defeat him. Maybe we just need to accept that he will always be stronger at the start of the week. And instead of fighting him, we should grab a bigger coffee and say: “Fine, you win today. But Friday is mine.”

Because one day… some Monday… maybe he will lose. Until then — he’s leading by a huge margin.
